Example 2.3. An $\infty$-category $\mathcal{C}$ is an essentially $1$-category if and only if it lies in the essential image of the nerve functor $N\colon\mathbf{Cat}\to\mathbf{Cat}_{\infty}$ and it is an essentially $0$-category if and only if it is equivalent to the nerve of a poset.
